Johann Kroll, CFA, CFP®
“Krollsy”
Founder
After a four-year professional hockey career which included winning a Calder Cup (Hershey Bears 2010) and a Kelly Cup (South Carolina Stingrays 2009), Johann founded Oceanside Advisors dba The Hockey Wealth Group and the company became a registered investment advisor in 2014. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation and is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™. “Krollsy” is also an active member of the CFA Society of South Carolina. He has over 17 years of personal investing experience and received a Bachelor's degree in Finance from Ohio State University, where he was a four-year scholar-athlete on the men’s hockey team. He previously held positions at Gradient Investments and Visionary Insurance Advocates.
Johann is originally from Minneapolis, MN and resides in Charleston, S.C. with his wife Kaitlin, daughter Keegan, and son Nash.
Tyson Strachan, MBA
“Stracks”
Head of Pension Analysis
Prior to joining the Hockey Wealth Group, Tyson played in the NHL for parts of eight seasons with the Blues, Sabres, Capitals, Panthers, and Wild. The remainder was spent primarily in the American League before finishing his eleven-year hockey career with a season with the Cardiff Devils of the EIHL.
He attended Cardiff Metropolitan University in Cardiff, Wales where he earned an MBA degree in Finance with Merit. He now holds a Series 65 license. Prior to his pro-hockey days, “Stracks” went to Ohio State University where he was teammates with Johann for three of his four years.
During his hockey career, Tyson and his wife Kate founded a non-profit that supported animal adoption and welfare. They currently reside in New Albany, Ohio with their son Rory, and two adopted dogs, Petey and Beau.
Patrick Gaul, CFP®
“Gauler”
Partner
Patrick joined the Hockey Wealth Group in 2017 after playing seven seasons of professional hockey with the South Carolina Stingrays, the last five of which he was an assistant captain. “Gauler” was the recipient of the Heart, Hustle, and Desire award three consecutive seasons. The honor is presented to one player who is considered by their peers to be the hardest working in their respective Conference, demonstrating heart, hustle, and desire each and every night, both on and off the ice.
Patrick is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and currently holds a Series 65 license. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a concentration in Finance. While at Notre Dame, he was a three-year Monogram award winner for the men's varsity ice hockey team.
Patrick is a native of Pittsburgh, PA and now resides in Charleston, SC with his wife Victoria.
Ross Chawansky
“Rosco”
Advisor
Ross is the newest member of the Hockey Wealth Group team, joining in 2020. In addition to holding his Series 65 license, he is also a licensed insurance professional helping to implement risk-management policies when appropriate. “Rosco” graduated from the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. While at MSOE, he was a four-year scholar athlete for the men's varsity ice hockey team, serving two-years as team captain.
Before joining the Hockey Wealth Group, he enjoyed twelve years as an account executive delivering energy-efficient HVAC equipment and controls solutions for commercial applications. During that time, he spent eight years coaching youth hockey while also helping launch an adaptive sports sled hockey program in Milwaukee.
Ross grew up in Detroit, MI and currently resides in Mount Pleasant, SC where he enjoys golfing and spending time with wife Kari, and sons Jackson and Austen.
